A magnitude 6.9 earthquake shook the Visayas and Bicol regions. GMA Integrated News went to Bogo City, Cebu—the epicenter of the quake—and on the way there, the extent of the damage became evident. Large rocks and soil from elevated areas had fallen onto houses, structures, and vehicles.

Authorities fear that the number of casualties may continue to rise, with the latest report (as of 12:14 p.m., October 1) recording 69 deaths. Severe damage was already seen from the initial tremor last night, which was followed by nearly 900 aftershocks, according to the 10 a.m. update from PHIVOLCS. The government assured that it is ready to assist everyone in need. Several Kapuso stars also offered their help and prayers.
